For further promoting regional economic cooperation between Chinese and western South Asia and parts of Europe, motivating China and South Asia and Europe's investment and trade exchanges, accelerating leapfrog development in Xinjiang, the Chinese government has decide to hold the First China-Eurasia Expo on the 5th of September 2011, which will be located in Urumqi in Xinjiang International Exhibition Center.
It is sponsor by 29 national ministries and commissions including the ministry of commerce and the ministry of foreign affairs, 22 economically develop provinces and cities in China as co-organizers, 10 units including the Department of Commerce of Xinjiang, China and Xinjiang Production & Construction Corps Business Bureau, as well as the secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Asian Development Bank, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Mongolia, India, Iran, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, Turkey, other economic and trade departments, trade and investment promotion agencies, other international institutions and business institutions as co-sponsors to hold this economic and trade pageant every year.
“China-Eurasia Expo” consists of commodity trade, investment negotiation and exhibition display, focusing on products’ advantages of China and the Chinese and western south Asian and European countries. Suppliers and purchasers will be widely invited to discuss import and export trade, to promote business exchanges, to expand multilateral trade, to increase the cooperation between industry and investment opportunity, and to promote the investment policy of China and the Chinese and western south Asian and European countries and tourism environment.
Major events will be held during the expo: the Asem summit which leaders and dignitaries from China and other countries and regions will attend to, to discuss multiple and bilateral issues for common development; High-Level Forum that consists of economy, industry and trade, tourism, transportation, energy, finance, news and other ministerial level leaders; forum activities with the theme of "energy cooperation, trade and investment facilitation of SCO member states, Eurasian land bridge infrastructure investment and construction, agricultural cooperation development, regional connectivity and port construction and customs clearance facilitation in central, western and South Asia, China-Eurasia tourism cooperation and development".
The First “China-Eurasia Expo” will also consist of 7 series of special events: the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Business Day, investment and trade promotion activities of all participating countries and regions, meetings of Chinese and foreign entrepreneurs and various signing ceremonies, to promote and strengthen regional cooperation and exchanges.
In order to enhance the friendship and cultural exchanges among the people of all countries, there will be forums for cooperation between China and foreign countries, the dialogue of civilizations, as well as film and television exhibitions, photo exhibitions, Xinjiang development achievements exhibition, history and culture exhibition, ethnic culture festival, culture week between China and other countries and other related activities. As a matter of fact, the China-Eurasia Expo has been held continuously for 19 years as the China Urumqi Foreign Economic and Trade Fair, in 2011 it will be upgraded to be the first Asem expo in Urumqi in September. The First “China-Eurasia Expo” is held in high standard with the Vice Premier Wang Qishan serving as honorary director. The expo will not only continue to be the largest comprehensive exhibition in central Asia, but also become an important diplomatic platform to deepen all-round cooperation between China, Asia and Europe. The expo plans to invite leaders, dignitaries and representatives from China, Asian and European countries and representatives of international organizations, as well as SCO trade and investment facilitation, tourism, agriculture, finance, science and technology, news and other special topics such as the Hong Kong pavilion day. The First “China-Eurasia Expo” will be held in the Xinjiang International Convention and Exhibition Center.
The exhibition area includes Xinjiang plate, international plate, hi-tech park and development zone plate. During the expo, there will also be China-Eurasia economic development cooperation forum, Chinese leaders, dignitaries from Asian and European countries, representatives of international organizations, experts and scholars from home and abroad will be invited to attend. Clearly, Xinjiang is both a host and a beneficiary. The China-Eurasia Expo is at a higher level and in a wider field to be the very important thrust to promote Xinjiang's leapfrog development. For Xinjiang, it means that through the China-Eurasia Expo, on the one hand, we could show the spirit of Xinjiang's openness, confidence, harmony and development, at the same time let more people know about Xinjiang and let people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang know more about the world.
"No. 1" is the main forum, that’s to say, the China-Eurasia Economic Development Cooperation Forum. This main forum is to invite China's national leaders and political dignitaries from Asian and European countries to attend and deliver a speech. They will also invite famous economists from all over the world, friends from the business community, and large enterprises. The China-Eurasia Economic Development Cooperation Forum is estimated to be around 1000 people and is organized by the Ministry of Commerce.
“No. 9” meant 9 ministerial forums, or thematic activities. Business Day is organized by the SCO, the activity included the trade and investment debates among SCO members states and the meeting of Chinese and foreign entrepreneurs of SCO member states. This time, we plan to take the “Business Day” as the brand forum of the China-Eurasia Expo, and we will continue to do so annually. The subjects will change due to different conditions.
The tourism cooperation development forum in the expo will be the platform for leadership in the tourism industry to exchange and communicate. There are also agricultural cooperative development forum, scientific and technological cooperation development forum, finance minister forum, overseas Chinese merchants and Xinjiang development forum, Chinese and foreign culture exhibition week, etc., those are then 9 forums and activities we designed. These forums and activities are combined with our reform and opening-up in Xinjiang, especially in the new era, Xinjiang's rapid development and long-term peace and stability. We design different themes to provide a platform for exchanges and communication between ministers of Asian and European countries at the expo.
Furthermore, there is one more Hong Kong pavilion day as a "1+9" event. As a special administrative region of our country, Hong Kong has very closed economic and trade ties with mainland. But, comparatively speaking, the scale of economic and trade development between Xinjiang and Hong Kong is inferior to that of the mainland. This is determined by geographical status. Xinjiang is the region far away from China, and Urumqi is also the furthest city, Xinjiang has some disadvantages compared with Guangdong, Shanghai and other coastal regions. Because of the disadvantages, we should strengthen and promote the economic, trade and investment cooperation between Xinjiang and Hong Kong through such a platform. So we have set up such a Hong Kong pavilion day to comprehensively present the achievements of the cooperation between Hong Kong and Xinjiang, and further promote the interaction and exchange between enterprises of Xinjiang and Hong Kong.
